About Me

Naomi Casement LMSW, CAADC, CSAT

Hello! I am Naomi

Since 1986 I have provided guidance and and education to individuals, couples, and families. I specialize in the treatment of trauma and addiction recovery so people can find their strengths to heal and create the life they desire.

My role as a therapist is to help harness your personal strengths so that you find the answers you are looking for within yourself, and to come to a resolution of challenging issues that your face.

With my experience in treating individuals, Couples, and families struggling with anxiety and depression, I have found that it is not uncommon that people face addiction issues as well. Often, this is a secondary condition that can become a serious problem as it develops as a way to “soothe”, and “self-medicate” in order to feel normal. In seeking answers for why this secondary condition occurs, I furthered my focus and continued my education in both trauma and addiction studies. Through time, with my education, observations, and direct experiences, I began to notice a large percentage of people who struggle with addiction issues also struggle with unresolved trauma experiences. Many are not aware that they may still carry these unresolved burdens. My curiosity in these areas compelled me to continue my education in both, trauma and addiction studies. My trauma treatment competencies extend from working with people who have experienced single incident traumas (eg. car accidents, crime experiences, surgery trauma and medical conditions, etc.) or those who faced in depth repeated traumas and PTSD ( eg. physical, emotional, sexual childhood abuse, domestic violence, and combat experiences).

The therapy environment that I offer is a safe welcoming environment, allowing for an experience in which you can open up to explore and process. The therapist must be non judgmental and hold space to be with you in your experience. My goal as your therapist is to provide you with the optimal safe experience, you deserve, so you realize and embrace your personal strengths and to gain tools to implement those realizations in order for you to live the full satisfactory life that you are seeking.

A Therapist’s Journey

Being creative is another passion of mine. I always enjoyed color, fashion, making things by hand, and always finding new ways with interesting things around us. I began my school career in the fine arts area. Enthusiastically, I earned my associates degree in fine arts at Mott community college in Flint, Michigan. While there I had the privilege to be able to take an art therapy course. This experience quickly connected creativity and my interest in mental health issues. Already a mother with a young toddler I decided to switch my focus and major more in depth in psychology. I continued my education at the University of Michigan, l earning a bachelor’s degree in Community Psychology. I worked for two years with teen runaways, and with special needs children with developmental disabilities. Afterwards, I went on to further my education attending Wayne State University, completing my master’s degree in Social Work. To this day my education continues, as well as my direct work with client’s who are seeking to heal in these areas.

When I am not working at my practice, I enjoy different ways for my creative side to get nourished and expressed. I enjoy finding ways to rejuvenate/recycle found materials into furniture, interior design décor or art pieces for the wall. My love for the outdoors draws me toward gardening. Theme gardens and creating my mini outdoor sanctuary helps me to decompress, relax, and take in what earth offers.

In addition, I love to hike. The Petoskey area has beautiful trails and coastal shorelines that are so much fun to explore and take in nature’s gifts. Another passion and interest of mine is natural health and wellbeing. The art of food and eating healthy are areas of importance to my rejuvenation and focus.
